Home Battery Storage Permit Requirements in Oregon (2025)
Last updated: June 2025
How Oregon Battery Permits Work
Oregon has a state building code system through the Oregon Building Codes Division (BCD). All jurisdictions must adopt state codes. Oregon adopted the 2020 NEC. Every incorporated city requires permits for residential battery storage. Portland, Salem, Eugene, Bend, and Medford all have established electrical permit processes.
The Permit Process
Portland uses the Bureau of Development Services (BDS) online permit portal. Straightforward residential electrical permits often receive over-the-counter or same-day approval in Portland. PGE (Portland General Electric) and PacifiCorp handle interconnection applications; typical 3โ5 week processing.
Documents Required
Required: permit application, single-line diagram, UL 9540 spec sheets, Oregon licensed electrical contractor (Oregon CCB license), site plan. Oregon does not require a PE stamp on standard residential electrical drawings.
