Home Battery Storage Permit Requirements in Georgia (2025)
Last updated: June 2025
How Georgia Battery Permits Work
Georgia adopted the 2020 NEC statewide. Every incorporated city and county requires a permit for residential battery storage. The Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors requires licensed electrical contractors for permitted work. The Atlanta metro (Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb, DeKalb, Cherokee counties) has high permit volume and experienced staff.
The Permit Process
Atlanta uses the City of Atlanta Office of Buildings permit system. Fulton County operates separately from Atlanta city permits. Gwinnett County has an efficient online system with typical 7–10 day review times. Georgia Power's interconnection application for residential battery storage takes 3–4 weeks.
Documents Required
Required: permit application, single-line diagram, UL 9540 spec sheets, Georgia licensed electrical contractor information (Georgia State Licensing Board license number), site plan. Georgia does not require a PE stamp on residential electrical drawings.
